Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead detailed a heartbreaking story about Tyreek Hill’s arrival to Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday following the latter’s controversial arrest by Miami-Dade police officers.
On Sunday morning, Tyreek Hill was pulled over and arrested by officers for a traffic violation during his commute to the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Witness videos and police bodycam footage showed Hill being pulled out of his car, handcuffed and taken to the ground during the detainment.
Hill’s teammate, defensive tackle Calais Campbell, was also arrested after attempting to de-escalate the situation. Both were eventually let go and arrived at the stadium well before kickoff.
On X/Twitter, Armstead wrote that Hill showed up to the Miami locker room with red eyes full of “anger and pain.” Armstead felt “pain” for his teammate and called the situation “Completely unnecessary, completely sad!”
Hours after the witness footage surfaced, Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced that one of the arresting officers had been placed on administrative leave.
Hill has lawyered up and is considering legal action against the department. The Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 2.
The eight-time Pro Bowler is coming off a career year in which he caught 119 receptions for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns (the latter two marks led the NFL). He has led Miami to playoff appearances in his first two years with the organization.
Tyreek Hill Is Moving Forward
Hill did not let the disturbing situation distract him in Week 1 against the Jaguars, finishing with seven receptions for 130 yards (both game-highs), including a game-changing 80-yard touchdown that kick-started Miami’s comeback. Jason Sanders added two fourth-quarter field goals to help Miami escape with a 20-17 victory.
Even though he has every right to show public anger and sadness, the 30-year-old has handled the matter calmly and collectively. He took to X/Twitter on Monday and stressed a desire for change.
