Oilers captain Connor McDavid confirmed on Saturday that the team’s travel plans have been derailed by Taylor Swift.
You can chalk this one up there on the list of articles I never thought I would be writing.
On Saturday, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid made a bizarre confession when he revealed that his team’s travel to the city of Toronto had been derailed, by of all things, recording artist Taylor Swift. McDavid made the comments seemingly unprompted when he was asked how the last 48 hours had been, at which point he revealed that Taylor Swift had caused the team a few headaches.
“Just trying to get to Toronto,” said McDavid suddenly cracking a smile. “We were on the plane early trying to beat all the Taylor Swift traffic.”
When asked if the team boarding the plane early had helped them beat the aforementioned Taylor Swift traffic, McDavid was happy to confirm that the plan had indeed paid off for the Oilers.
“We did yeah we managed to do it,” said the Oilers captain with a laugh.
McDavid also seemed to be enjoying the buzz in the city of Toronto stemming from the upcoming concert from the pop star.
“It’s cool to see the city so excited,” said McDavid.
McDavid was also asked if he was one of the many Taylor Swift fans that call themselves “Swifties” and although he answered in the affirmative his look and the vagueness of his response suggested that may not be the case.
“Got some great songs, yeah” said McDavid giving the reporter who asked the question a sideways glance.
Other than perhaps extending the Oilers road trip a little I don’t expect the arrival of the pop star in the city of Toronto to have too much of an impact on the Oilers, although there may be some who will point the finger at Taylor Swift if the Oilers come out looking flat tonight in Toronto after altering their normal routine.
