After playing 43 games for the New York Knicks during the 2019-20 season, Marcus Morris is set to make his return to the team. The Knicks traded Morris to the Los Angeles Clippers after those games in exchange for Maurice Harkless and a 2020 first-round pick. But now, they’re bringing him back.

The Knicks made the announcement via a press release on Twitter. Morris seems excited about his return to New York. After the Knicks’ announcement, he took to Instagram with a simple four-word reaction.

Like I never left,” he wrote on Instagram.

However, his homecoming has arrived with some uncertainty. Morris was signed to an exhibit 9 contract. For this reason, he has yet to sign a guaranteed contract with the Knicks.

Knicks President Leon Rose appears focused on strengthening the team’s bench, as Morris follows the recent signings of Landry Shamet and Chuma Okeke, who joined the team for training camp.

This puts Morris in a competitive position, where he will likely battle Shamet and Okeke for the final roster spot. Hence, his role with the Knicks remains up in the air.

Marcus Morris’ Last Season Stats

Last season, Marcus Morris played in a total of 49 games, splitting time between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Across those games, he posted averages of 6.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game during the regular season.

For the 76ers, Morris appeared in 37 games, where he contributed 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 17.2 minutes per game. After moving to the Cavaliers, his role slightly changed, and he averaged 5.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists over 15 minutes per game across 12 appearances.

Though Morris is excited for the Knicks move regarding him, for now, he will have to wait and see if he can secure his place in New York once again.
