Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the legendary NBA star turned businessman, is no stranger to witnessing greatness unfold in sports. After leading the Los Angeles Lakers to five NBA championships, Johnson remains a passionate sports fan.
However, his recent remarks about the highly anticipated boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul reveal his disappointment with what he viewed as a lackluster performance.
The fight, which was held at the AT&T Center in Texas, saw Jake Paul defeat 58-year-old Tyson on points. As Tyson’s first professional fight in nearly two decades, fans had high expectations, hoping to witness glimpses of the dominance that made Tyson the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the three-belt era.
For many, including Johnson, those expectations fell flat. The NBA legend took to his X account and didn’t hold back his frustration. “Just sad smh. I cut it off because I couldn’t watch anymore. It’s sad to see Mike Tyson like this because I went to every Tyson fight. This fight tonight was not great for boxing,” Magic Johnson wrote.
For Johnson, Tyson’s career has always been a source of admiration. Having witnessed Tyson’s dominance during his prime, Johnson was among the many fans who were excited to see the former champion return to the ring. However, the fight’s lackluster quality and the controversy surrounding the decision left a sour taste.

“Like father, like son! First Carmelo and now Kiyan,” Johnson wrote in the caption while sharing a post of Kiyan.
