After a challenging season that ended with the Los Angeles Lakers being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, the team made a bold move by firing head coach Darvin Ham. They later appointed former NBA star JJ Redick as the new head coach, despite his lack of coaching experience.
With Redick at the helm, the Lakers are focused on returning to championship form. Redick has already made up his mind regarding the starting lineup for the upcoming season, sticking with a group that had proven some success last year. During an interview on ESPN’s “The Lowe Post” podcast, Redick shared the scenario of the Lakers starting lineup.
“This season’s starting lineup would be the starting five that went 23-10 last year,” Redick said.
The Lakers’ lineup for the upcoming season includes D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis. With this starting group, Redick hopes to guide the Lakers back to their winning ways and make a serious run at the NBA title.
JJ Redick Outlines Offensive Vision for the Lakers’ New Season
The Los Angeles Lakers made headlines during this season’s NBA Draft by selecting Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, but they have since made no major offseason additions. With much of the roster remaining from last season, new head coach JJ Redick is ready to lead the team into the upcoming season.
During his interview with ESPN, the former NBA star shared his vision for the Lakers’ offense. The new coach is also focused on finding ways to create advantages.
“I think in terms of what the offense looks like, there will be a decent amount of movement. The shot profile will hopefully improve. You know, we’ve talked about ways to create more paint touches. We’ve talked about ways to shoot more threes. We’ve talked about some of the leeway that you have to give certain players with their mid-range shots, whether that’s in the post or isolation,” Redick said.
“Outside of that, there hasn’t been a lot of margin creation, so we’re going to try to create some margins. One of which is, we’re really going to emphasize offensive rebounding and corner crashes,” he added.
With a strategic approach in mind, Redick is determined to fine-tune the Lakers’ gameplay. The Lakers will kick off the season with a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
