Recently, a heated debate has emerged over whether today’s players could have succeeded in the NBA of the 1990s. Anthony Edwards fueled the conversation by boldly claiming that players from 30 years ago, except Michael Jordan, lacked skill. Former NBA star Isiah Thomas was one of the most vocal critics of Edwards’ remarks.
In contrast, NBA legend Kevin Garnett came to Edwards’ defense while appearing on the “All The Smoke” podcast. Garnett supported the notion that modern players might struggle with the physical style of play from decades past.
“If I’m being honest, bro, I don’t think anybody in this generation could have played, like, 20 years ago,” Garnett said.
“This is to Ant, this is to everybody in our league, Tatum, all y’all—let me tell y’all something bro, 20 years ago, you couldn’t get to a triple step-back,” he added.
Anthony Edwards Stays Cool Under Fire
While Anthony Edwards’ recent comments about the skill level of 90s NBA players have ignited a heated debate, the Minnesota Timberwolves star appears to be taking it all in stride. Despite the controversy, Edwards seems to be living a carefree life, showing no signs of concern over the backlash his statement has caused.
On Monday evening, Edwards took to Instagram to share a post, simply captioning it, “I love this sh*t.”
Edwards’ relaxed demeanor could be attributed to his recent success on the court. He’s fresh off winning his first Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympics, a significant achievement that undoubtedly adds to his confidence.
Additionally, before his Olympic appearance, Edwards played a key role in leading the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals. The Wolves star averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game last season.
