We experienced an unusual scene during the Montreal Canadiens’ head coach Martin St-Louis’ press conference last night in New Jersey.
This won’t calm down those who believe that journalists aren’t what they used to be and that they’ve become too “soft” in press conferences.
Renaud Lavoie Shifts the Blame on The Refs
During the Q&A session following the Canadiens’ loss to the New Jersey Devils, the TVA Sports journalist took it easy on the head coach.
Right from the start, he shifted the «spotlight» away from the coach and the players, redirecting it more toward the officials.
«Why is Renaud giving Martin St-Louis an easy out by blaming it all on the referees? The Canadiens didn’t play well tonight. It’s that simple.» – HFTV
Do you agree with him?
«In the second period, you guys made an incredible push, spent a lot of time in their zone, and then, unfortunately, David Savard gets hooked.. and bang!» – Renaud Lavoie
«Refs didn’t help us tonight» – Martin St-Louis, clearly referring to the referees.
«No, ehh..» – Renaud Lavoie
This shifted the focus to the referees’ performance rather than that of the Montreal Canadiens. At least, that’s what many are criticizing this morning on social media.
In the press conference, Martin St-Louis also mentioned that, collectively, he felt his team spent a lot of time in the offensive zone, and despite the result, he noted his players are better applying what’s asked of them in practice.
He seemed encouraged for what’s ahead.

The Montreal Canadiens are back in action tomorrow night at 7:00 PM against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
