Another red flag for Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll who has been unable to remain healthy.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were hopeful that goaltender Joseph Woll would take on a bigger role for them this season but, although that may still prove to be the case, things have not gotten off to a very good start.
Woll has yet to play a single game for the Maple Leafs this season due to injury and, although he was a full participant in practice on Friday, Saturday appeared to mark the return of bad news for the often-injured netminder. Woll was once again absent from the team’s morning skate on Saturday, with indications that the Maple Leafs would once again have to rely on the services of Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby.
Stolarz appears poised to be the starter for tonight’s game against the New York Rangers, while Hildeby appears to be the likely backup.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube attempted to downplay any concerns that there might be about Woll’s absence today by indicating that it was a scheduled day off for the Leafs goalie.
I’ll be honest, given the fact that Woll has yet to appear in any games this season, as well as a long history of being unable to remain healthy, I’m not convinced that Berube’s words will be enough to soothe the concerns of Maple Leafs fans.
The Maple Leafs have 2 games scheduled over the course of the next 3 days, with matchups against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets scheduled for Monday and Tuesday respectively, so we should have more clarity on Woll’s status in the coming days.
