In 2020, the biggest news about free agents within the NFL was who Tom Brady would sign with. After 20 years with the Patriots and six Super Bowls, it almost felt like a guaranteed trip to the big game for whatever team landed him.
Of course, teams were likely offering him a ton of money except for one team. While Brady was in the booth for the Buccaneers and Eagles game, he showed some notecards that revealed how much some teams offered him, as well as other criteria for joining a team.
The most shocking was that the Chicago Bears offered him just $10 million. Brady did mention he seriously considered signing with Chicago but ultimately ended up in Tampa Bay, and maybe the salary was a big reason.
In 2020, Chicago snuck into the playoffs with an 8-8 record until they ultimately lost in the Wild Card round.
They did this with Mitchell Trubisky starting in nine games and Nick Foles in seven. The pair combined for 3,907 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
Brady’s 2020 season consisted of 4,633 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, and only 12 interceptions. That surpassed the tandem in Chicago.
If the Bears could get that production out of Brady in Chicago that same year, there’s no telling how far they would have gone.
Tom Brady Returns To Tampa Bay As A Broadcaster
Brady spent the last three seasons of his career in Tampa Bay as a Buccaneer, and the team should forever be grateful for it.
In his second year, he brought home a Lombardi Trophy that the organization hadn’t won since 2003.
Next week, Brady will likely return to Foxborough, where he started his career and path to becoming one of the greatest NFL players ever.
