Basketball fans have been fortunate to witness the unforgettable retirements of many legendary players over the years. However, among these celebrated farewells, there have been a few cases where players faced disappointment upon retiring from the sport. One such player is Joakim Noah. Unfortunately, his Bulls retirement party didn’t go as he had hoped. However, Derrick Rose saved everything in the final moments.

During a recent All The Smoke podcast appearance, Noah shared a story from his Bull’s retirement party, when the franchise supplied cheap liquor. He explained how Rose managed to obtain expensive liquor without seeking credit for saving the moment. You can listen to the conversation at the 10:27 mark of the video mentioned below.

“When I ended up retiring with the Bulls… They brought in the guys, but they were giving me that cheap liquor for the party. Pooh (Rose) put the money down right away for me. He’ll do s*** like that but just not say nothing. He doesn’t want credit for anything but just class act I think.” Noah said.

Noah provided outstanding support for the Bulls during his nine years with the team. In the 2014 NBA season, he was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year award and placed fourth in the MVP voting that same year.

Russell Westbrook’s Touching Tribute To Derrick Rose Following His Retirement

In September 2024, Derrick Rose announced his retirement after playing 15 seasons in the NBA. The three-time NBA All-Star played for six teams, including the Bulls and Knicks, and averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 723 regular-season games. After Rose’s retirement, the Denver Nuggets’ new addition, Russell Westbrook, praised the Bulls legend and sent a heartfelt message for him.

“D-Rose is like a brother of mine. We came in the draft together, worked out together… I am really happy to see he’s in a great place of peace and comfort for him and his family. He’ll go down as one of the greats. I’ve been grateful to share the floor with him,” Westbrook said in a recent interview with Fadeaway World.

Rose is still the youngest MVP in the league’s history. In his debut season, he was honored with the Rookie of the Year award. NBA fans have witnessed the Bulls star’s dominance despite serious injuries, and he will be remembered as a great player.
