Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has done a great job with the team so far this season, although a few players could certainly use some help.
One of those players just so happens to be Nick Robertson.
Robertson was holding the Maple Leafs ransom earlier in the year as he either wanted a contract or an immediate trade.
He was practically begging for more ice time and a larger opportunity with the franchise.
Despite getting this opportunity, Robertson has not been able to properly capitalize. Instead, he has scored just one goal in the first 18 games of the season.
After a win against the Utah Hockey Club, Berube spoke at length about the troubles that Robertson was facing.
Craig Berube defends Nick Robertson
“It’s going to go in eventually for him. We all feel for him. And we want him to put the puck in the net.”
In the clip down below, you can see how goals just can’t find their way into the net for Robertson.
Even when the cage is wide open, he either misses entirely, or rings his shots off of the post.
Will Nick Robertson ever score
This is one of the worst situations a player can find themselves in, and you have to be at least a little bit sorry for Robertson.
After all, he does work hard, it just isn’t translating into anything tangible.
He has been brought up in trade rumors, and if he continues to struggle, the Leafs may just have no choice but to pull the trigger on a deal.
