A brawl erupted in Jacksonville after Texans linebacker Aziz Al-Shaair delivered a late, brutal hit on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence that knocked him unconscious.
Al-Shaair made hard contact with Lawrence’s head and neck area as he was in the process of giving himself up on a slide.
Lawrence was clearly knocked out as his arms went into a fencing motion that we have seen way too much over the years.
Neurologist Chris Nowinski would take to X and give his two cents on th ematter as he wrote, “Brutal hit on Trevor Lawrence. His stiff arms and legs are the “fencing response”, meaning he is knocked out.
Hope he’s OK. This happens way too much with sliding QB’s. What’s the answer? Greater penalties? Is that fair? This can’t continue.”
The hit took place in the second quarter as Houston held a 6-0 lead.
Trevor Lawrence scrambled out of the pocket on second-and-7 and slid near the line of gain.
Texans linebacker Aziz Al-Shaair ignored the slide and delivered a vicious forearm to his upper body, making Lawrence’s head bounce off the turf.
How Much Time Could Trevor Lawrence Miss?
Lawrence had finally been cleared to return after missing the Jaguars’ last two games with an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder.
Less than two quarters into his return, he would get knocked unconscious.
Now, depending on his X-rays, there is no telling how much time he will miss.
Prior to this game, Lawrence had thrown for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions, leading the Jaguars to a 2-7 start.
