Ivan Demidov, selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the recent draft, sparks high hopes among Canadiens fans.
Fans, eager to see him join the team as early as next season, continue to closely monitor every development in this situation.
The 18-year-old forward, currently with SKA Saint Petersburg, represents a promising future for Montreal, especially as the team struggles through a tough season lacking energy and dynamism.
Ivan Demidov’s KHL coach makes questionable remarks about the Montreal Canadiens
However, his coach at SKA, Roman Rotenberg, has recently added fuel to the fire by claiming that Demidov is better supported and develops more effectively in the KHL.
According to Rotenberg, Montreal’s players are not on the same level as those at SKA, and Demidov benefits from a more competitive environment there.
«I’ll tell you honestly, there are no partners in Montreal comparable to those Ivan (Demidov) currently has with SKA. There are no centers or wingers like here in Montreal.»
-Roman Rotenberg
He also highlighted the influence of veterans like Evgeny Kuznetsov, though some fans question the off-ice quality of such leadership.
This stance heightens tensions between SKA and the Canadiens, especially as Demidov mentioned in an interview that he admires Lane Hutson’s game, another young Montreal prospect.
This indicates his interest in the Canadiens, even though he likely won’t join the team this year.
Time will tell if the Montreal organization can convince Demidov and support his development when he eventually makes the leap to the NHL.
One thing is certain, Demidov’s arrival as early as next season could significantly shift the landscape for the Montreal Canadiens if the team truly aims to contend seriously next year.
