Blue Jackets Loan Hockey Ops Staff to Canadiens in Bizarre Goalie Situation

Martin St-Louis’ squad is back in action tonight, live from Columbus, to face Sean Monahan and the Blue Jackets.

This will be their second game in as many nights, following last night’s loss to the Utah HC.

Due to the condensed schedule, as reported by the excellent journalist Anthony Martineau, we witnessed an unusual situation in front of the Montreal Canadiens’ net during this morning’s practice. (in Columbus)

Probably because the team wants to allow Cayden Primeau and Samuel Montembeault to rest ahead of tonight’s game, there was a rather unconventional goaltender at this morning’s optional practice for the Canadiens.

A member of the Columbus Blue Jackets’ hockey operations department acts as a goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, live from morning practice

Unusual situation this morning, as the Blue Jackets loan a member of their hockey operations department to the Canadiens to serve as a goaltender during practice involving the extras.

Reid Robertson played in the UCHC collegiate division from 2019 to 2022.

We love little stories like this.

As mentioned by the TVA Sports journalist, this member of the Blue Jackets’ hockey operations department, loaned to the Canadiens to act as a practice goaltender, is named Reid Robertson.

According to his “Hockey DB” page, Robertson is a towering goaltender at 6 feet 6 inches and 205 pounds. He hails from Plano, Texas, and played collegiate hockey from 2019 to 2022 for Manhattanville College.

Over three years, he recorded save percentages of 0.886, 0.818, and 0.898, with a record of 4 wins, 8 losses, and 1 overtime loss.

It’s a great moment for him, and we love to see it.

Kudos to the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for this wonderful gesture.

At last update, Robertson was taking shots from Patrik Laine and Michael Pezzetta. Quite an experience!

More details to follow.
