The Chicago Blackhawks have decided to bolster their roster by securing forward Landon Slaggert with a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $900,000. Notably, both terms of the contract are one-way, underscoring the team’s commitment to Slaggert as a valuable asset.

Last season, Slaggert dipped his toes into NHL waters, appearing in 16 games for the Blackhawks. During that stint, he managed to net one goal and contributed four points. This extension indicates that the Blackhawks see potential in Slaggert’s development and are eager to see how he can continue to grow with more opportunities on the ice.

Before turning pro, Slaggert capped his collegiate career with impressive numbers at the University of Notre Dame. He lit the lamp 20 times and collected 31 points in his final season alone, all while taking on the leadership mantle as Notre Dame’s alternate captain over two seasons. Across his college career, Slaggert amassed a total of 47 goals and 92 points in 136 games, showing a consistent upward trajectory in his performance.

Hailing from South Bend, Indiana, Slaggert received the honor of being nominated for the Hobey Baker Award during the 2023-24 season. This nomination is a testament to his outstanding play, as the award recognizes the NCAA’s top men’s hockey player.

Drafted 79th overall in 2020, Slaggert has had a robust development journey. He honed his skills with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program from 2018 to 2020 and shone brightly on the international stage, helping secure gold for Team USA at the World Junior Championships in 2021.

Hockey seems to run in the Slaggert family. Landon’s younger brother, Carter, recently wrapped up his freshman season with Notre Dame, continuing the family tradition at South Bend. Meanwhile, their older brother, Graham, is carving out his own path with Rochester in the AHL, following a solid college career with the Fighting Irish.

Landon Slaggert is known for his energetic style of play, making him a valuable component in the bottom-six forward slots. While he might not be the guy leading the scoreboard, his tireless work ethic and ability to create space around the net make him a promising player for the future.
