We could see a major shift in the Montreal Canadiens’ goaltending.
The crushing loss of the Montreal Canadiens against the New York Rangers, as well as the one against the Seattle Kraken, has intensified discussions and criticism around the team.
While some believe that a high-caliber defenseman could strengthen the lineup, NHL analyst and former player Dave Morissette offers a different perspective.
In his opinion, an experienced goaltender would be an asset that could make a difference.
He argued that an experienced goaltender would provide essential support to Samuel Montembeault while covering defensive weaknesses.
The Canadiens Must Acquire a Veteran Goalie, Says Dave Morissette
However, this idea is currently just a prediction from Morissette. Cayden Primeau has shown signs of nervousness, and Morissette questions his ability to remain consistent in critical moments.
Yet, Kent Hughes traded Jake Allen less than a year ago to make room for Primeau, a decision that suggests the Canadiens might prefer to focus on developing their young talents.
Unless there’s a change of direction, going after a veteran seems unlikely, especially if the team isn’t in the playoff mix later in the season.
While Morissette’s suggestion makes sense, the Canadiens’ management appears focused on a long-term vision, which could rule out the option of a veteran goaltender this season.
What do you think, would acquiring a veteran goaltender benefit Samuel Montembeault and contribute to the Montreal Canadiens’ success?
Do you believe too much is currently being asked of Montembeault?
According to the latest list published by Chris Johnston, the veteran goaltender John Gibson is a name available on the trade market.
Just as Kent Hughes officially becomes active in the trade market:
It’s very interesting.
