Going on a shooting spree in the second half, McCain dropped 23 points during the period. He also successfully converted 9 out of 15 attempts from the field to round off a fantastic outing. McCain ended with 27 points, playing a crucial role in the 76ers’ overtime victory. Another mainstay of the game was Guerschon Yabusele. Carving out a personal best performance, Yabusele dropped 20 points to ensure further that the Hornets did not nudge ahead at the last moment.
However, when all the drama was unfolding, one particular athlete had to sit out and watch the action. It was none other than Paul George. Returning from a bruised left knee injury, George consumed his log of 33 minutes, which forced him to sit out during the overtime. Now, watching such a high-octane clash from the sidelines was surely something that no athlete would want.
Citing his frustration, George stated, “I mean, completely frustrated. I was completely frustrated. Just the way this game was going, I wanted to be out there for the guys with that commitment to try to win the game, especially when you’re at home, you get on the good side. Luckily, my guys had me.”
Before leaving the court, George had made a significant contribution, dropping 15 points with 9 assists. Meanwhile, there is also an underlying reason for George’s frustration. Paul George did not like the way he performed on his 76ers debut. Thus, the hunger to prove his worth was even more within him as the games passed by.
Paul George Reflects On ‘Bad’ Debut
Paul George made the switch to the Philadelphia 76ers this year back in July. Unfortunately, making his debut on November 4 against the Phoenix Suns, things didn’t quite go as planned for George. Suffering a crushing 118-116 defeat, George only had 15 points, four assists, and five rebounds to show for it. And quite expectedly, George was furious with himself.
Reflecting on his performance in an interview with Keith Pompey, George stated, “It was bad… The good thing about it, though, I was able to go out there and compete free of any thoughts of my body not holding up. I felt completely fine. That was the positive in it. But all around it was definitely a rusty game.” Thus, looking to bounce back, Paul George has shown glimpses of improvement. It now remains to be seen how he performs for his new team in the future.
