The Royal Family must avoid discussing “their inner-most secrets” with Prince Harry “because they don’t want it to appear in a book”, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg has warned.
The former Cabinet minister – discussing whether the Duke of Sussex could return to public life – said it would be “very hard to rebuild…trust” after his tell-all autobiography.
But the Royal Family may be forced to accept Prince Harry back into the fold because of his popularity amongst younger people, Sir Jacob said.
Sources have claimed the Duke would return “part time” if King Charles asked him to – and Prince William apologises for the feud between the pair.
Other sources have hit back, claiming Prince Harry – who turns 40 next week – has “no interest” in returning to royal duties in the UK and is focused solely on his future in the United States.
Asked if it was possible for a shock comeback, Tory grandee Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg said: “I think it will be difficult. The real difficulty is that anything that anyone has said to Prince Harry appeared in a book.
“It is very hard to rebuild that trust.
“On the other hand, he is a charismatic figure, popular still with younger people.
“And it is going to be very difficult if he wants to come back because the monarchy is the fount of mercy, as well as of justice.
“I just wonder what the British people will think in ten years’ time, if no mercy is shown?
“So, I think there may be a way back for him in due course and that a very hard-nosed Royal Family may find that doesn’t maintain popular support.
“But he’s got to come back in a very measured way that means that when they have lunch with him, they are only talking about the front page of the Daily Mail, rather than their inner-most secrets because they don’t want it to appear in a book.”
Harry, 39, took aim at close members of his family in his autobiography, Spare, and accused the King and William of being desperate to leave the royal family if they could. William and Harry have not spoken for months and currently have no contact.
The Duke of Sussex was a guest of his uncle Charles Spencer after the funeral of Diana’s brother-in-law Lord Robert Fellowes.
And while Prince William also attended the service, the pair are not believed to have spoken.
But Harry’s friends say he is also determined to improve his relationship with his father, especially given his recent health woes.
It was previously reported that Prince Harry’s relationship with his friends and family has been affected by the Home Office’s decision to downgrade his security.
A source revealed that while the Duke’s UK-based friends are eager to spend more time with him, the requirement to give 28 days’ notice before arriving in the country restricts his visits to special occasions or public events planned well in advance.
The ongoing drama within the Royal Family regarding Prince Harry’s potential return to public life continues to unfold.
While some members may be hesitant to welcome him back due to concerns about trust and privacy, others recognize his enduring popularity with younger generations.
Despite the rift between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William, there are speculations about a possible reconciliation in the future.
As Prince Harry approaches his 40th birthday, his focus remains on his life in the United States and his future endeavors. However, there are whispers of a potential return to royal duties if King Charles extends an invitation.
The question remains whether the British public will be receptive to his comeback, considering the controversy surrounding his tell-all autobiography.
It is clear that rebuilding trust will be a significant challenge for Prince Harry if he decides to rejoin the fold.
The Royal Family must approach his return cautiously, ensuring that discussions remain surface-level to avoid any further leaks to the press.
While some may view his return as necessary for the monarchy’s relevance and popularity, others remain wary of the impact it may have on
the institution’s integrity.
As the story continues to unfold, the British public remains divided on whether Prince Harry should be welcomed back into the Royal Family.
It is evident that his relationships with key members, including his father Prince Charles and brother Prince William, are strained.
Only time will tell if a path to reconciliation can be forged and if Prince Harry will find a way to reintegrate into royal life while maintaining his independence and authenticity.
