A ‘provocative’ drama likened to British hit Skins has been cancelled by ITV after just two seasons.

Tell Me Everything will not return for a third series after executives decided to ‘shelve’ the programme ‘for now.’

Tell Me Everything was created by Mark O’Sullivan and follows 16-year-old Jonny Murphy as he explores life growing up in the 2020s, touching on topics including mental health.

Originally, a deal had been agreed with production company Noho Film and Television and ITVX to commission two series, an insider told The Sun.

The second was broadcast last June on ITV2.

The source added: ‘It was a great achievement for cast and crew that its popularity resulted in it getting a place in the linear TV schedules on ITV2.

‘There was the opportunity to renew the show, but a decision was made to shelve the format for now.’

Tell Me Everything starred Eden H. Davies, Mark Quartley, Spike Fearn, Sophie Albett, Daisy Jacob, Liz White and Ben Jones.

A spokesperson for ITV said: ‘After two brilliant series of Tell Me Everything, there are no further plans for the show to return at present.’

Produced by the same company as Skins, a popular series which first aired in 2007, Tell Me Everything has often been compared to the E4 show.

Skins followed the lives of a group of Bristol-based sixth formers in the mid noughties and captivated its audience with gritty and realistic story lines.

The seven series ran from 2007 to 2013 and shone a spotlight on the antics of adolescents as they experimented with drugs, sex and partying. It also tackled issues such as mental illness, eating disorders and substance abuse.

However, last year Skins actress Kaya Scedlario, who played teen runaway Effy Stonem, revealed there was a lack of safeguarding for young actors when she was rising to fame on the E4 drama.

Speaking on the Dish from Waitrose podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Harnett, Kaya recalled being interviewed by Nick when she was 15 and ‘really drunk’ at an underage festival.

She said: ‘You encapsulate that time for me. You were a safe place for us because back then there wasn’t the same amount of safeguarding with young actors, there wasn’t anyone checking if we were okay.

‘Whenever we worked with you, you were always kind and gentle and lovely funny and talented.’ She then jokingly added: ‘That’s enough a** licking for now.’
