This Morning host Dermot O’Leary found himself the subject of online banter after fans claimed he looked visibly uninterested during an interview with reality star Ferne McCann.
Dermot and co-presenter Alison Hammond were chatting with Ferne on Friday’s episode as the former TOWIE star discussed her upcoming Dancing on Ice debut.
However, Dermot’s body language quickly became a talking point on social media, with viewers pointing out moments where he appeared to sigh and stretch during the interview.
Fans Call Out Dermot’s ‘Bored’ Demeanor
Viewers didn’t hold back in sharing their observations on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Many poked fun at Dermot for seemingly disengaging from the conversation.
“The big sigh and stretching had me,” one fan wrote, accompanied by a laughing emoji.
Another quipped, “That stretch, the ‘yeah lovely and just have a nice time.’ Haha, I can’t cope.” A third chimed in, “The sighing and stretching was crazy work.”
Some fans even empathized with Dermot, with one commenting, “Don’t blame him, I switched off too, what nonsense are they even talking about. Bore.” Another suggested, “This is perfect, he’s obviously met her before. ‘Yeah lovely.’”
Ferne McCann Talks Dancing on Ice Debut
Despite Dermot’s apparent lack of enthusiasm, Ferne McCann was eager to discuss her excitement about competing on the new season of Dancing on Ice. The 34-year-old reality star performed her first skate over the weekend, set to Lily Allen’s Somewhere Only We Know.
She impressed the judges and audience, earning a score of 26.5 and landing third on the leaderboard, just behind Coronation Street’s Sam Aston and TV presenter Michaela Strachan.
Ferne described the experience as “magical” and praised the production team for creating such a fantastic show. “It was the perfect time,” she explained, referring to her decision to join the series after wrapping up her reality show at the end of last year.
“I genuinely can’t believe it. The progression is crazy. I started off not being able to ice skate at all and feeling really frustrated, thinking, ‘How am I ever going to get this?’ I really just had to surrender and trust the process,” she shared during the interview.
Training Challenges and Fitness Benefits
Ferne also revealed the physical toll and rewards of her intense training schedule. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, she said the rigorous sessions had given her a newfound level of fitness.
“Every shoot I’ve done leading up to Dancing on Ice, all of my friends have been going, ‘Ferne, your booty!’” she joked. “It’s because you’re constantly squatting and bending down the whole time on your bent knees, so it’s been amazing exercise. I’ve just got fitter and more supple the more training I’ve done.”
Despite her enthusiasm, Ferne has faced some challenges. Former Dancing on Ice winner James Jordan expressed concerns about her height potentially making certain moves more difficult. “It would be great to have a really strong female,” he told The Mirror.
“I was thinking about Ferne McCann. She’s only 34, but she’s very tall, and I worry that she’s going to struggle.”
Dermot’s Reaction Sparks Debate
While Ferne was full of energy discussing her ice-skating journey, the focus on social media remained on Dermot’s visible reactions. Whether he was genuinely disengaged or just having a moment of fatigue, fans speculated endlessly.
His co-host Alison Hammond seemed as lively as ever, ensuring the interview maintained its upbeat tone. However, Dermot’s subdued demeanor became the unintended highlight of the segment.
Looking Ahead
As Dancing on Ice continues to showcase its star-studded lineup, Ferne McCann has her sights set on the competition, determined to improve her skating skills and climb the leaderboard.
Whether or not Dermot O’Leary will show more interest in her progress remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: fans are always ready to keep a sharp eye on their favorite presenters.
For now, Dermot’s stretch-and-sigh moment will likely remain a lighthearted memory for viewers, adding a touch of humor to the show’s usual mix of celebrity interviews and engaging discussions.
