Denise Welch, renowned TV presenter and *Loose Women* panelist, has expressed her candid thoughts about some recent statements made by her son,
Matty Healy, the lead singer of popular band The 1975.
Known for his outspoken nature and occasionally controversial remarks,
Healy recently made a series of bold comments about life and the music industry, sparking backlash from fans and, most notably, his mother.
In a recent interview, Welch did not hold back as she publicly addressed Healy’s “rubbish” claims, criticizing them for being overly dramatic and misinformed.
Healy, who has always been known for his unfiltered thoughts and eccentric persona,
had spoken about his struggles with fame, personal relationships, and the pressures of being in the public eye. However, Welch felt that his comments did not reflect the reality of the situation and were instead exaggerated.
The *Loose Women* star made her feelings known during a candid conversation on the show. “Honestly, some of the things Matty says – it’s just rubbish,” Welch remarked with a laugh, before continuing, “I know he has a tendency to speak his mind and say things that are sometimes, well, a bit over the top.
But I don’t always agree with him. It’s important to put things into perspective, and sometimes I think he needs to remember just how fortunate he is.”
While Welch acknowledged that Healy had faced his own share of challenges growing up in the spotlight, she expressed concern that his comments could mislead young fans who might idolize him.
The 61-year-old television personality explained that while Healy’s life experiences are valid, it’s crucial to recognize the privilege that comes with being a successful musician, something she believes he often overlooks.
“He’s had a great career, a successful band, and an incredibly supportive family. It’s not been easy, but there’s a difference between struggles and exaggerating how hard things have been,” Welch explained. “He’s had a lot of opportunities that many others could only dream of. It’s important to stay grounded.”
Healy’s comments had centered around the mental toll of fame, his relationships, and the constant scrutiny of the public eye.
While many fans resonated with his rawness and vulnerability, Welch seemed less convinced by the narrative Healy had constructed, particularly the idea that he was somehow misunderstood or mistreated by the media.
“Of course, the pressure of fame is real, but Matty has the privilege of being able to express himself and build a career in a way that most people would never get the chance to do,” she pointed out.
Though Welch’s remarks were somewhat critical, she made it clear that she was speaking out of love and concern for her son. “I just want him to understand the bigger picture,” she added.
“He’s very talented, and he’s done so well for himself. I want him to focus on the positive and not get lost in negativity.”
In addition to addressing Healy’s statements, Welch also opened up about her own experiences as a mother and how she navigates the complex relationship between fame and family life.
She admitted that while being in the public eye can be challenging for any family, the key is to stay grounded and keep a sense of reality.
“As a mother, I worry about my children. But it’s about helping them see the bigger picture and not getting too bogged down by the pressures of fame,” she said.
While the comments from Welch have undoubtedly sparked debate, they also highlight the unique dynamic between a mother and son when both are in the public eye.
As a well-established TV personality herself, Welch has long been familiar with the scrutiny that comes with being in the spotlight, but her perspective on the matter is rooted in a sense of pragmatism and experience.
Despite the disagreement, it’s clear that Welch remains deeply supportive of her son and his career.
She added that, while she might not always agree with everything he says or does, she is proud of the man he has become and the impact he continues to have on the music industry.
“At the end of the day, he’s my son, and I love him,” she said. “I just think sometimes he needs a little reality check.”
As for Matty Healy, it’s unclear how he will respond to his mother’s comments, but his history of candidness suggests he’ll likely have something to say on the matter.
However, Welch’s open and honest criticism serves as a reminder of the complexities of fame and family, and how even the most well-known figures need a strong support system to help keep them grounded.
