On Wednesday’s *This Morning*, viewers were left outraged during the final segment of the show, which discussed the controversial topic of “orgasmic births.”
The segment sparked a flurry of reactions from audiences, with some claiming it was inappropriate for daytime television
and even threatening to “switch off” in response to the discussion.
Hosted by Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, the segment featured a guest, Lisa,
who shared her personal experience of what she described as an “ecstatic” birth during her second delivery.
According to Lisa, it was a feeling that was hard to explain but she likened it to a “cosmic orgasm” or an “energy orgasm,” describing it as a state of euphoria rather than a physical orgasm.
However, she was quick to clarify that there was no physical stimulation involved during this birth as her daughter and mother-in-law were in the room.
Lisa then revealed that her third birth experience had been different, as she admitted to engaging in “intimate stimulation” with her partner to enhance the experience.
The topic, often considered taboo, raised eyebrows among viewers, many of whom took to social media to express their discomfort.
One viewer on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “OMFG had to turn off,” while another said, “This is so not a suitable topic for lunchtime TV, I’m not at all prudish but ffs!” Other comments included, “Time to turn over,” and “I’m off!”
As the conversation grew more heated online, it became clear that many were not comfortable with the subject matter being discussed during the day’s broadcast.
The segment continued with input from midwife Marley Hall, who was asked whether she had ever encountered cases of women experiencing orgasms during childbirth in her 16 years of practice.
Marley responded by saying that no patient had openly told her about such an experience, but some had admitted it during later home visits.
She explained that it could be linked to an increase in oxytocin, a hormone that plays a key role in labor and childbirth, which can also reduce pain for some individuals.
Despite the limited clinical evidence, Marley acknowledged that the feeling of ecstasy during birth might be more common than people realize but noted that the stigma surrounding childbirth and sexuality could discourage many from discussing it openly.
As the conversation developed, Ben Shephard addressed the fact that many viewers might find the subject matter inappropriate for a daytime show.
In response, Lisa defended the conversation, explaining that childbirth should be considered part of female sexuality, just as menstruation is.
She further stated, “Giving birth was sexual,” which added fuel to the fire, with many viewers finding the comparison troubling.
The controversy surrounding the segment comes on the heels of another controversial *This Morning* episode, where the show featured 72-year-old Caroline, who discussed her life as an escort.
Caroline’s appearance was similarly criticized, with viewers questioning whether such topics were suitable for daytime television.
One viewer tweeted, “I’m no prude, but is a 72-year-old talking about [oral sex], really suitable for morning TV?” while another said, “Make it stop!” A third expressed their frustration with the show, writing, “WHAT ON EARTH HAS THIS SHOW BECOME!”
The backlash highlights the ongoing debate about the types of topics deemed appropriate for daytime television.
While *This Morning* has often addressed sensitive or controversial issues, many feel that discussions of a sexual nature, particularly those about intimate experiences, should be reserved for late-night programming or more specialized forums.
The show’s handling of these sensitive issues continues to draw mixed reactions, as some viewers support the platform for encouraging open discussions, while others feel that certain subjects are inappropriate for a broad, daytime audience.
In the aftermath of the segment, it remains to be seen how *This Morning* will respond to the growing concerns of its audience.
As the conversation around what is considered appropriate for morning TV continues, it’s clear that the show’s content will remain a source of debate among viewers, some of whom feel that certain topics cross a line.
