A major trade involving the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils has just been suggested, aiming to acquire Simon Nemec.
Several factors seem to have led to this proposal.
The Canadiens are off to a disappointing start to the season, Kent Hughes wants to acquire a top-4 right-handed defenseman (and shake things up), Hughes likes targeting recent high-potential first-round picks, and a certain close friend of Juraj Slafkovsky might be available in New Jersey.
In any case, his name is starting to circulate in trade rumors.
A Trade Between the Canadiens and Devils Involving Simon Nemec?
With all this in mind, it’s indeed a proposal that was put forward on BPM Sports.
«Among the names starting to circulate on the market, one of the most intriguing is probably that of young defenseman Simon Nemec of the New Jersey Devils. Drafted just behind Juraj Slafkovsky in the 2022 draft, he hasn’t played since October 22, having been benched by head coach Sheldon Keefe for the last five games.»
Marco Normandin
All this led host Stéphane Gonzalez to make an interesting suggestion.
«Forget about offers like Armia plus a 2nd-round pick; it’s not happening. If the Canadiens want to bring in quality, they’ll need to pay up.

And you, would you do it? Do you think it would be a good acquisition for the Canadiens?
Simon Nemec, only 20 years old, is a 6 foot 1, 190-pound right-handed Slovak defenseman.
He was drafted 2nd overall in 2022, one spot behind Juraj Slafkovsky, and he already has 20 points in 69 NHL games (37 penalty minutes).
He also recorded 42 points in 78 games in the American Hockey League.
