Phoenix Suns Set The NBA On Fireworks By Dealing Superstar Kevin Durant To Western Conference Heavyweight In Massive Trade Proposal

That trade proposal is definitely a blockbuster and could shake up the Western Conference in a huge way. If the Suns go through with it, they’d be getting younger, adding much-needed depth, and gaining valuable draft assets—something they desperately need after trading away so many picks in recent years.

Kevin Durant looking on.

For the Rockets, adding Kevin Durant alongside Alperen Şengün, Jalen Green, and Fred VanVleet would instantly make them a serious contender. With Ime Udoka at the helm, they could make a deep playoff run this year and beyond. The biggest question would be how KD fits into their system and whether they’d have enough defensive toughness after giving up Dillon Brooks.

For the Suns, this could be the kind of reset they need. Jabari Smith Jr. is an ascending young star, Reed Sheppard has potential, and Dillon Brooks—whether they keep him or flip him—adds another defensive presence. More importantly, getting those unprotected first-round picks helps them retool around Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

What do you think—should the Suns actually pull the trigger on this deal, or is it too soon to break up their Big Three experiment?

Durant was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets two years ago, but they have only won a single playoff series since his arrival (the opening round in 2023). But he certainly isn’t the issue in Phoenix, with averages of 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season.

A Kevin Durant trade to the Rockets would undoubtedly shake up the Western Conference, but it’s hard to see a realistic scenario where Houston acquires him without sacrificing at least one of their core pieces. Phoenix, currently struggling to find consistency, would likely demand a significant return—possibly a package centered around Jalen Green or Alperen Sengun, plus draft capital.

The Rockets have been patient with their rebuild, prioritizing young talent and continuity. Would they be willing to disrupt that for a short-term title push? Durant, despite still being one of the best scorers in the league, is 35 and has dealt with injuries in recent years. His fit alongside Ime Udoka’s defensive-minded system is intriguing, but Houston would need to be sure that adding him pushes them over the top.

For Phoenix, if things continue to falter, moving Durant could be a way to reset around Devin Booker and Bradley Beal while gaining younger assets for the future. Whether Houston is the right trade partner remains to be seen, but the idea of KD joining their mix certainly makes for an exciting “what-if” scenario.
