Seattle Seahawks Stun The NFL By Sending QB Geno Smith To NFC Rival In Blockbuster Trade Proposal

With a pivotal offseason looming, the Seattle Seahawks have to make a decision on the long-term future of Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith.
The 34-year-old Smith is entering the final season of a three-year, $75 million contract extension he signed in 2023. Per OvertheCap.com, trading or cutting Smith would carry a $13.5 million dead money charge but save Seattle a whopping $31 million against the salary cap.
If Seattle GM John Schneider explores the trade market for Geno Smith, he should have no problem finding several interested suitors. With 12,226 passing yards and 71 passing touchdowns over the last three years, the two-time Pro Bowler has shown that he can play at an above-average level.
The New York Giants stand out as a logical landing spot for Smith, who spent the 2017 season as Eli Manning’s backup. You may recall that Smith got a start over Manning late in the year, ending the latter’s consecutive starts streak at 210.
New York released Daniel Jones late in the 2024 season and finished out the year with backup Drew Lock. With the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, the Giants could target a promising QB prospect like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward.
Even if the Giants land one of those quarterbacks, it doesn’t hurt to have a rookie learn behind a veteran like Geno Smith for one year. Or, they could theoretically use the No. 3 pick on another elite prospect like two-way Buffaloes star Travis Hunter and see what Smith could do with him and Malik Nabers as his weapons.
What Giants Should Offer Seahawks For Geno Smith
Given Smith’s age and the fact he’s only signed for another year, a fair price for Smith would be a 2025 fourth-round draft pick. That move would clear valuable cap space for Seattle and opens the door to either audition Sam Howell or make a move for another QB, via the draft, trade or free agency.
