The Chicago Sky will play their final game of the WNBA regular season on Thursday against Connecticut Sun. However, fans won’t see Kamilla Cardoso in action due to an injury.

Chicago has ruled out Cardoso due to a shoulder injury. Her issues with her shoulder have bothered her since the start of the season, causing her to miss the first three games of the campaign. In their 93-88 loss against the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, the rookie forward tried to play through. But Cardoso didn’t feel 100% and was shut down by coach Teresa Weatherspoon after nine minutes of action.

The injuries to the team’s rookies are significant factors as to why the Sky might not make the playoffs this year.

Kamilla Cardoso has been bothered by her shoulder injury the entire season

Kamilla Cardoso has had a hard time dealing with her shoulder injury at the start of the season. The first time her shoulder became an issue, she was emotional as she had to wait for it to heal for her to get back into action.

“Just being at practice, watching, keep learning, even though I’m not able to practice. Just watching the plays, learning the plays. Just staying connected to my teammates, they’ve been supportive, they’ve been helping me a lot.” Cardoso said.

“Honestly, it’s frustrating. I never got hurt before, I never had to sit out a game before in my life. So, it’s really frustrating but I know I got some really good people here that got my back and I just gotta trust God, I believe that everything happens for a reason.”

Cardoso is one of the top rookies of the 2024 Class. She had one 20-point game this season, and in 17 games, she put up at least 10 points each. She also had seven double-doubles in points and rebounds this season.
