Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been fined by the NFL ahead of his upcoming Super Bowl 59 appearance.
The Chiefs star is gearing up to return to the big game for the third consecutive year, with the Philadelphia Eagles now the only team standing in the way of a historic three-peat.
Travis and his teammates will spend the week in New Orleans to prepare for the game and fulfill media obligations, but he will be a bit short in the pocket as the league has punished him for something he did during the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday.
The 35-year-old has been fined $11,255 for taunting after getting into the face of Bills safety Damar Hamlin after a touchdown run from Patrick Mahomes during the first half of the game.
Lineman Jordan Phillips hit Kelce, prompting an obvious flop from the star TE. Phillips was flagged for his reaction, while Kelce escaped scot-free. The penalty didn’t have a significant impact on the game, as the Chiefs took the yardage on their extra-point attempt before Harrison Butker converted.
NFL Fans Are Not Happy About Travis Kelce Only Paying Now
While Kelce is paying for the infraction, NFL fans are still angry.
“We don’t care about the fines! We care about the flags!” one declared.
“God forbid it was flagged at the time. Like it would have been for EVERY SINGLE BILLS PLAYER,” said a second.
“Any other calls they want to fix after the fact?” asked a third.
Of course, others pointed out that it wouldn’t have made a considerable difference as Butker would have made the extra point from 15 yards farther out.
In any case, Kelce won’t mind. He’s playing in the Super Bowl next weekend, after all.
