Crazy Caitlin Clark comparison with Diana Taurasi underlines Fever rookie’s GOAT-level potential
Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark’s standing as a potential WNBA GOAT was spotlighted once again in a Reddit thread post on Thursday. In particular, her 20-point and 10-assist games were compared to those of Phoenix Mercury resident star Diana Tuarasi, widely considered among the best players, if not the best ever, in WNBA history.
The thread highlighted how Taurasi compiled nine 20-10 games in 559 regular season games, and 10 including the playoffs (630 career games), good for second all time, while Clark is already a close third with seven in just 34 games in her rookie season.
No. 1 in the 20-point, 10-assist games list is Courtney Vandersloot, now of the New York Liberty, with 10 in 421 regular season games and 12 overall, including the postseason (471 career games).
The post went on to highlight that given the numbers, Taurasi has a 20-10 game every 62 games, while Clark has one every five games. That’s apart from the other impressive feats the Iowa Hawkeye legend has had so far, including two triple-doubles.

The top overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft, Caitlin Clark has been having a stellar rookie campaign for the Fever. She’s averaging 18.9 points, 8.4 assists (league-high), 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 36 minutes in 34 games.
Her steady solid play has been a boon to Indiana (18-16), which is playoff-bound for the first time in eight years.
Caitlin Clark has had Diana Taurasi and Phoenix Mercury’s number this season
Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever have had the number of Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury this season, taking both their two games.
While at it, the Indiana star rookie guard was on a tear, averaging a solid double-double of 22 points and 11 assists. For good measure, she also added seven rebounds in 37.5 minutes. Her numbers were better than those of veteran Taurasi (17.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 3 apg in 32.5 mpg).
The Fever first beat the Mercury 88-82 on June 30 in Phoenix, with Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell joining forces with Clark in towing their team to the victory. They then doubled up on Aug. 16 in their first game following the Olympic break, winning 98-89 at home, with the Fever rookie exploding for 29 points and 10 assists.
Interestingly, the Fever and Mercury are locked in a tight race for the sixth spot in the standings as the postseason approaches. Indiana is sixth with an 18-16 record, a game ahead of the No. 7 Phoenix (17-17).
