Football fans are teeing off on the State Farm insurance company after their significant announcement for Super Bowl 59.
State Farm Stadium announced in a statement that they are pulling themselves out of the commercial lineup on FOX for Super Bowl 59. The big game will be held at the New Orleans Saints’ home venue, the Caesars Superdome, on Feb. 11.
Here’s their statement, per Gabe Lacques of USA TODAY Sports:
“State Farm, its agents, and employees are all focused on helping customers impacted by the Southern California wildfires in the midst of this tragedy. Our claims force is the largest in the industry and we are bringing the full scale and force of our catastrophe response teams to help customers recover – whether they are on the ground in LA or across the country.
“Our focus is firmly on providing to support to the people of Los Angeles. We will not be advertising during the game as originally planned.”
The insurance company giant has come immense scrutiny during the southern California wildfires due to them abruptly canceling thousands of homeowners’ insurance policies last year.
Following the announcement that they won’t be part of the Super Bowl 59 commercial lineup, fans on X/Twitter wasted no time ripping on the company:
“Like a Bad Neighbor Statefarm is never there,” one fan wrote.
“Well that’s one good decision they’ve recently made,” remarked another.
“Just like you cancelled their home insurance policies?,” asked a fan.
“They been canceling a lot of stuff lately lol,” another remarked.
“Those commercials are annoying anyways,” quipped a fan.
“Smart business move. State Farm is not a charity,” another remarked.
State Farm has been a mainstay in Super Bowl advertisements for many years. Last year, their “Like a Good Neighbaaa” ad starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito drew rave reviews.
However, the company has decided to pull out this year amid significant backlash from their decision to cancel many homeowners’ policies in California. This year, a 30-second advertisement for the Super Bowl will cost companies a whopping $7 million.
The final eight teams in the NFL playoffs are the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
Eighth Super Bowl Game Inside The Superdome
No NFL venue has hosted more Super Bowl games than the Caesars Superdome. The Saints’ home has hosted seven big games, including the Baltimore Ravens- San Francisco 49ers thriller in Super Bowl 47 12 years ago.
