Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson shared her thoughts on having to show herself to the new fans who started watching the WNBA this season. The defending MVP joined Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s Roommates Show to discuss a variety of topics, including the idea of lowering the rim so that players can have better chances to dunk the ball.

Wilson also talked about the league’s growth, revealing that she was ‘annoyed’ at having to prove herself again in a season where new and young talent made noise around the competition.

“It wasn’t the creeping growth that we were used to, it was like, ‘No, we’re taking a leap.’ And that’s something that you really don’t see in leagues. It was like, ‘Wow, look at us, look at where we’ve come,’ but I felt like this year, it was like, ‘This is the time. We’re in the season of women’s basketball.’

“And it was so much fun. It was aggravating, I’m not gonna lie. It was super annoying sometimes, because you feel like you have to reprove yourself,” Wilson said.

She added:

“It was probably early on in the season. I would just have to say, maybe like 10 games in, it was like when I said, ‘I’m not about to go back with fans, I’m not about to go back with anything. The time is now. Whatever you do, people are gonna say something regardless, so you might as well do it your way.’

“And that’s when it just clicked with me that I’m like, ‘No, I’m not about to waste my energy and giving my energy to people that are literally draining it from me.'”

A’ja Wilson said that after she changed her mindset, the season became fun to her and the numbers she posted were the prime sample of that.

A’ja Wilson posted a historical MVP season

The Aces superstar made a statement with her terrific 2024 season, becoming the first player to surpass the 1,000 points threshold (1,021), breaking the single-season total points record posted by Jewell Lloyd last season.

She also set a record for the most rebounds in a season (451) while leading the Aces to the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the league. A’ja Wilson was voted the second unanimous MVP in WNBA history.

If somebody didn’t know who she was, she made sure to let everybody know that until further notice that she’s the best player in the league.
