NFC Team Lands Jets QB Aaron Rodgers In Blockbuster Trade Proposal That Would Send Shockwaves Across The Football World
There’s no plausible scenario for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets to continue their marriage next season. The Jets were the NFL’s biggest embarrassment in 2024, finishing a woeful 5-12 in a year marred by ridiculous distractions, organizational dysfunction and humiliating headlines (such as owner Woody Johnson letting his sons have influence personnel decisions).
But it’s unfair to suggest that the 41-year-old Rodgers is washed up and should retire. In fact, his 2024 stat line (3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions) was significantly better than his 2022 campaign with the Green Bay Packers. And folks weren’t calling Rodgers “washed” then.
So the Jets will likely either trade or release Rodgers, assuming he decides to resume his Hall of Fame career. And if he does hit the market, the Seattle Seahawks stand out as an ideal landing spot for the four-time MVP.
Seattle narrowly missed the postseason with a 10-7 record in 2024 despite productive seasons from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Kenneth Walker III. But the unit struggled with consistency, largely due to Geno Smith’s ball security issues (15 interceptions and nine fumbles).
Now imagine if the star-studded Seattle offense (complemented by a championship-caliber defense) had Aaron Rodgers leading the offense instead of the inconsistent Smith. That QB swap would immediately move the ‘Hawks into championship contention.
Per OvertheCap.com, Seattle would save a whopping $31 million against the cap if they released Smith in the offseason. So yes, the cap space is there to take on Rodgers’ contract.
What Seahawks Should Offer Jets For Aaron Rodgers
Given Rodgers’ age and soured relationship with Jets ownership, he shouldn’t cost GM John Schneider much. In fact, there’s a chance that New York’s next GM will be happy to give him away for pennies.
Seattle should offer New York a conditional 2025 third-round pick and a conditional 2026 fourth-round pick for Rodgers. That’s a fair price for a quarterback who probably has no more than two seasons left in his playing career.
