Social Media Detectives Call Out Cotton Bowl Refs For “Rigging” Game After Ignoring Blatant Penalty On Game-Winning Play

Social media has been calling the Cotton Bowl refs out for rigging Friday’s game between Ohio State and Texas in favor of the former after they failed to penalize Ryan Day for being on the field during one of the most crucial plays of the game.

Referees hit Georgia’s Parker Jones with a penalty for sideline interference in last week’s Sugar Bowl, which ultimately cost the Bulldogs.

However, Day escaped punishment after running onto the field while Jack Sawyer returned a fumble for 83 yards to give the Buckeyes a two-score lead against the Longhorns in Friday’s CFM semi.

Ryan Day’s Actions Weren’t Quite The Same As Parker Jones’

Of course, Day didn’t run into an official like Parker did. But some folks still feel like he should have been penalized.

“Erratic refereeing. There needs to be consistency among referees in all conferences. Jones had the misfortune to bump into the official, else it would not have been noticed. This rule is blatantly ignored by all,” someone commented.

“This football game as a whole was the worst reffed game I saw all season,” said another.

Had the Ohio State head coach been flagged, they would have kept the ball, but their touchdown would have been reversed.

Still, it’s easy to see why the refs allowed this one to go unpunished, given that the play started with Texas being in possession before OSU got the ball and ran it in.
