Breanna Stewart acknowledged that she kept receipts after what Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon said last year during their championship celebration. Stewart and the New York Liberty eliminated the defending champs and are moving on to their second straight WNBA Finals.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Stewart commented on the death anniversary of his father-in-law, Josep Xargay, who passed away last year during last year’s WNBA Finals. She was grieving and it was evident on her 3-of-17 shooting in Game 4.

“Stewie” also made sure to take a shot at Hammon for mocking her poor shooting performance during the Aces’ championship parade last year. She used it as one of her motivations to beat Las Vegas in four games.

“No matter what, it’s a really tough time and just the way the series went last year, kinda going through all of that and making sure this year is different. Marta and I talk about doing everything her dad would want us to do. And you know, I have receipts on the things that were said, the entire team does. My mentality today was to go in and get this win for my wife and her dad,” Stewart said.

According to USA Today, Marta Xargays’ father passed away last year on Oct. 5 after a long battle with cancer. Breanna Stewart and her family were mourning as the New York Liberty struggled against the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Finals.

In Game 4 of the series, Stewart had 10 points, 14 rebounds and five assists while going 3-for-17 as the Aces won their second consecutive championship.

It’s a different story this year as the Liberty eliminated the defending champs in four games. Stewart finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots in their dominating 76-62 win in Game 4.

Speaking to reporters after Game 4, Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon was asked about her comments about Breanna Stewart’s shooting struggles in last year’s championship parade. Hammon didn’t directly respond to Stewart’s postgame comments but alluded to trash-talking being part of the game.

“At the end of the day, I have mad respect for those (New York) players, there’s no doubt about it. Of course, I’m always going to ride with A’ja (Wilson) but I think Stewie is phenomenal. Phenomenal. Stewie is gonna go down as one of the greatest of all time,” Hammon said. [H/T USA Today]

The Aces are back to the drawing board after failing to become the first team since the Houston Comets to win three straight championships. They have three key figures expected to enter free agency – Kelsey Plum, Alysha Clark and Tiffany Hayes.
