Clips of Lil Wayne confirming that Jay-Z paid off his upaid taxes reportedly worth $14,194,944 have gone viral online.

This comes after the former’s manager Fabian Marasciullo, Nicki Minaj, and Birdman, among fans, took to the internet to criticize the Roc Nation founder for not selecting him to perform at the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, next year. It is worth noting that the city happens to be the hometown of Lil Wayne.

“Jay-Z paid Lil Wayne’s taxes. When Birdman was robbing his “son,” it was Jay-Z who offered assistance, but yes HoV hates Lil Wayne. Drake stans are ridiculous.”

The tweet got viral and amass nearly two million views online. Meanwhile, a video of Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., thanking Jay-Z for lending a hand at his December 2018 Chicago tour stop has gone viral online. Wayne said on stage:

“There’s people like Jay-Z. He helped me when I was really, really, really down. Really, really, really down. Jay don’t want me to tell nobody. That man helped me with my taxes. He’s a real friend Y’all.”

Inside Jay-Z and Lil Wayne’s relationship as video of the latter thanking the former for paying off his taxes goes viral

As reported by HipHopDx, court documents revealed that the IRS placed two liens on Lil Wayne: one for $7 million in unpaid taxes from 2011 and another for $6.8 million from 2012.

Many initially believed that Jay-Z, a music strategist for the Super Bowl, did not select Lil Wayne to perform due to their earlier rift. The latter threw shots at the former in his I’m Good song by calling him a “p**sy,” He also threatened to “take him out” and vowed to kidnap his wife and singer Beyoncé.

The I’m Good diss came after Jay boasted about being the “best rapper alive” in his Bring It Back track in 2003. The following year, Wayne took on the title in his Tha Carter track, where he said, “I’m the best rapper alive, since the best rapper retired.”

As the years progressed, the duo repeatedly dissed each other. Jay-Z threw shade with his Watch What You Say song, where he seemingly rapped about Weezy:

“I hear you baiting me lately/ I’ve been doing my best to stay hater-free/ Still watch what you say to me/ Sooner or later I take you up on your offering/ Put you all in your place/ Like I’m replacing your father/ You’re talking to the author/ The architect of the Blueprint/ My DNA in your music mother**ker/ Watch what you say to me.”

However, the two eventually buried the negative feelings they had towards each other. Jay-Z praised Lil Wayne in his Mr. Carter track, and the duo collaborated on other songs like Swagga Like Us. Speaking about Wayne, Jay-Z also said in a 2008 Vibe interview:

“He first approached me as a fan. When he felt like he was close enough, he was like, ‘Maybe I can take his head off’ [laughs] — which is natural. I think he really is a fan of mine. I think he really loves the s**t that I’ve done. But as a person, as a competitor that’s only natural… I admire that in a way.…the public has him in line next, and for me to say he’s not in line next would be foolish. That’s what the public says, so why not?”

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar is set to take the Super Bowl stage on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome.
