Aja Wilson unexpectedly picked over Caitlin Clark by ex-NBA star in major league debate
While Caitlin Clark may have been named the 2024 Athlete of the Year by TIME magazine after a stellar rookie season, three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams doesn’t think she is the face of the WNBA. Despite Clark’s impact on ticket sales at home and on the road, Williams believes that the face of the league is none other than A’ja Wilson.
On Thursday’s episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” show with Michelle Beadle and Chandler Parsons, Williams said that the Las Vegas Aces star is the face of the WNBA.
“I’m not buying it. I still think that that belongs to A’ja Wilson,” Williams said. “A’ja has done a tremendous job of being a champion, being an MVP, doing all of these things, and now her visibility is going up. You’re starting to see her in commercials. … I still feel like it’s. I still feel like it’s A’ja Wilson.

“But you give Caitlin Clark credit. What she’s been able to accomplish in her rookie year and the eyes that she’s brought to the, to the WNBA.”
This follows Clark having the most-viewed player page in all 50 US states, which has created much debate surrounding his comments.
Looking at the attention Caitlin Clark brought to the WNBA in her rookie year
During Thursday’s “Run It Back” episode, the crew noted that Caitlin Clark was the most-watched WNBA player across all 50 states per Basketball Reference.
The outlet, which tracks detailed stats for NBA and WNBA players, posted maps of the US this week showing which team and player pages on basketball-reference.com received the most traffic.
Regarding the most-viewed WNBA team pages, the Indiana Fever’s team page received the most visits in all but three states: Montana, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.
Similarly, as Michelle Beadle mentioned, Clark had the most-viewed WNBA player page on basketball-reference.com in all 50 states.
Her presence also seemingly overwhelmingly impacted the College Basketball Reference team pages. The site reported that the Iowa Hawkeyes had the most-viewed page in 33 states and across all but one Canadian province, even though Caitlin Clark is no longer a Hawkeye.
Given that road games for the Fever sold out nationwide throughout Caitlin Clark’s rookie season, her play has resulted in a widespread uptick in attention.
After having 38 of their 40 games nationally televised last year, Clark and the Fever are expected to play most of their 44 games this season on national TV as the ‘Caitlin Clark Effect’ continues to sweep the nation.
