Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his family have received some devastating news ahead of their AFC Championship Game showdown with the Buffalo Bills.
Patrick’s mother, Randi Mahomes, took to Instagram and announced that her father, Randy, is now in hospice. Randi shared a photo of them with the two together with a caption that reads, “My dad is in hospice & I’m lost for words.”
Back in September, Randi asked for prayers after revealing that her father was hospitalized and not doing well. Randi’s mother and Patrick’s grandmother, Debbie Bates Martin, passed away on Apr. 5, 2023.
Hospices treat terminally ill patients who are nearing the end of their lives, generally with six months or less to live. So Patrick will be playing through plenty of emotions following the devastating update on his grandfather.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mahomes family during this difficult time.
Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Look To Continue Historic Run
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round to reach the AFC Championship Game for the seventh straight year. With a victory over Buffalo on Sunday, the Chiefs will become just the fourth team to play in three straight Super Bowls.
They would join the 1971-73 Miami Dolphins, 1990-93 Buffalo Bills and 2016-18 New England Patriots. No team in NFL history has won three straight Super Bowls, so we’ll see soon find out if can get make special history.
Though the Bills have won the last four regular-season meetings against the Chiefs, Mahomes is 3-0 against the Bills in the playoffs. Something has to give on Sunday.
