ESPn’s Stephen A. Smith was infuriated after coming across videos of Tyreek Hill being detained by police on Sunday.
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver had a surprising encounter with the authorities while on his way to his team’s Week 1 opener vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars after getting stopped.
Hill, who is said to have committed a traffic violation, experienced some shocking treatment as he was removed from his car, thrown to the ground, and handcuffed before he was eventually released.
Smith, one of the country’s most outspoken media personalities, was irate after the news broke and took to X/Twitter to express his feelings.
“This story with the police involving @cheetah ain’t going away damnit,” he wrote in a tweet. “Traffic violation? Fine. But WTH was he face down in cuffs, stood up, then the other officer runs over behind him and forced him to the ground again??? Hell No! Excessive! Wrong! Again, this ain’t going away.”
“Look for yourself. This is b.s,” the ‘First Take’ host added in another tweet. “Totally unnecessary. And btw…., I know the Scottie Scheffler incident was in Georgia — not Florida — and he was arrested, detained, booked.
“I also know we don’t know all the details, blah….blah…..blah! But he wasn’t faced down on the ground in cuffs? Then forcibly sat down again by officers a second time. Nah! This story isn’t going away — and it doesn’t need to.”
Tyreek Hill Was Not Himself After His Encounter With The Police
Tyreek Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, admitted the player was shaken up over the incident but would play.
“I was just with Tyreek. He will be playing today,” Rosenhaus told MLFootball. “Traffic violation entering the stadium. He is preparing to play”
The agent also told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington the incident was “completely unnecessary,” adding, “I’m very distraught about it. We’re going to have to look into it.”
Hill wasn’t having have a typical Cheetah game at the time of writing, with four catches and 32 receiving yards to his name, with the Dolphins training Jacksonville 17-7 in the third quarter.
