“I Pay Respect”: Shaboozey Declares Morgan Wallen a “Legend,” Reveals Collaboration Conversations
With the year coming to an end, rising country singer Shaboozey had a lot to celebrate over the last twelve months. Not only did he release the album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, but he also watched as his song “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” dominated the airwaves. The song became such a hit that he even performed it as the opening act to the 2024 Billboard Music Awards. Thrilled about his success throughout 2024, the singer recently took a moment to praise another country star, Morgan Wallen, and how the two almost collaborated.
Just before the awards kicked off, Shaboozey took a moment to talk to Billboard about his rising stardom in country music. But not wanting to just focus on himself, the singer pointed the spotlight to Morgan Wallen, who recently appeared in court for his chair-throwing incident. Not focusing on the star’s legal troubles, Shaboozey declared, “Morgan Wallen, he’s a legend, you know. He’s someone who makes great music and music that connects with a lot of people. So, as a country artist or someone who loves the space, I pay respect.”
Although Shaboozey’s new album comes full of hit songs like “Let It Burn”, “Anabelle”, and “Highway”, the hitmaker said Wallen almost landed on the album. “I met Morgan and…he was a good homie. There were even conversations about him jumping on the record early on…it’s cool to just to be able to know these people, honestly.”
Shaboozey Wins Big At The 2024 Billboard Music Awards
Not only praising Wallen, Shaboozey also pointed to another singer, Medium Build. One of his favorite artists, Shaboozey explained, “One I listen to religiously is Medium Build, he’s super awesome. I really think he’s one of the greatest new artists out there right now, and I can’t wait for him to get his moment and see more people get put onto him.”
Outside of hinting at collaboration that almost happened, Shaboozy did more than perform at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards as he walked away with three awards. Throughout the night, he won Top Selling Song, Top Country Song for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, and “Top Song Sales Artist.”
As for his performance during the 2024 Billboard Music Award, fans shared their thoughts, writing, “Wow. Not a country music fan, clicked on this to support him after the CMA nonsense, stayed because this song is so much fun!!”
