In a recent talk show, Zayn Malik shared a lot of interesting things about his life and relationships.

The 31-year-old singer mentioned everything from his love affair with Gigi Hadid to becoming a father for the first time.

Specifically, Zayn Malik revealed that one of his biggest regrets was his time as a member of the once-famous boy band One Direction.

Zayn reflected on why he felt disappointed at the time and why there were conflicts between the band members.

Sharing his experiences in the band One Direction, the British-Pakistani singer said he regrets not giving it his all, and wishes he had taken things more seriously.

Malik said his outlook on life has changed since then, and he’s realised the importance of being happy as he gets older: “I’m so grateful that I can be happier now and really enjoy things and have my own perspective. It’s my choice. I get to decide what it is. If I frame things in a negative way, I’m not going to get satisfaction from it, but if I act with happiness, I get more out of it and have a good time.”

Gigi Hadid’s ex-boyfriend also spoke candidly about his younger self: “You should be a nice person, you should be someone that people want to be around, enjoy being around, and you should bring light to people instead of being a cloud of negative energy,” Zayn said. When asked how he found peace with his past experiences, Malik replied that his daughter Khai “brought that colour back into my life.”

While many people think that Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid’s daughter got her musical talent from the male singer, Zayn believes that Khai got it from Hadid: “Khai is not a music expert, but she shows a little talent when playing drums. Her mother is really good at playing guitar hero, so I think, maybe Khai learned that from her mother and I really like it.”

Malik and Hadid welcomed their first child, Khai, in September 2020. The pair ended their nearly five-year relationship in October 2021 following rumours that Zayn had assaulted Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid.

“The first song I wrote on the album is Alienated and it’s like my relationship. Like when my ex and I broke up. So there’s a heavy emotional story and a sense of what I’ve been through.”

Although he didn’t name Gigi, it’s clear that the singer was referring to her. Zayn Malik added: “I don’t know if I should really be in a relationship right now.”
