Rookie WR gave his mother a game ball after scoring a TD
Taylor Swift may have gotten plenty of air time during the “Monday Night Football” matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints, but it was Xavier Worthy’s mom Nicky who stole the show.
Worthy, Kansas City’s rookie first-round pick, was relatively quiet for most of the game, but he put his stamp on the game early in the fourth quarter.
On a first-and-goal from the 3-yard line, the speedy receiver took a handoff from tight end Travis Kelce in the wildcat formation and raced to the right behind the block of running back Carson Steele for his fourth touchdown of the season.
The 21-year-old wideout immediately sought out his mom to give her the touchdown ball as a birthday gift. A video clip of the touching moment went viral
“She had him when she was 18 so she’s like really his sister,” ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters stated. “He said, ‘Our relationship is really close, she’s meant the world to me. She’s been there for me every step of the way. We have that special bond and talk all the time.’ He was so happy that she was going to be at the game tonight because it was her birthday.”

After Worthy ran an NFL record 4.21 40-yard dash the NFL combine earlier this year, Nicky posted about his achievement with the caption “MY SON is fastest guy in the history of the @NFL Combine! #historymade.”
Worthy hasn’t been shy about the joy he’s gotten from taking care of his mom, who is one of his biggest supporters, thanks to making to the NFL.
Worthy ended the night with three catches for 25 yards plus the rushing touchdown. Through five games, he’s caught 12 of his 21 targets for 179 yards and two touchdowns, and he’s added 42 yards rushing and two more scores.
