Viewers have criticized millionaire Whoopi Goldberg for what they perceive as her “lack of self-awareness” regarding her financial struggles.

On a recent episode of The View, the 68-year-old referred to herself as a “working person” and confessed she would leave the show if she didn’t need the money despite an estimated net worth of $60 million.

“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living,” Whoopi stated during a discussion about Donald Trump’s potential second term

Addressing the audience, she added: “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I’m a working person, you know? ”

In the same breath, Whoopi also touched on family responsibilities, saying: “My kid has to feed her family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there.”

She concluded her remarks with praise for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a reflection on public concerns, stating: “I love what [Ocasio-Cortez] did. Yay. We talk to people all the time who say, ‘This is what’s bothering me.’ But, the thing that’s bothering everybody should not be the thing that puts 85 percent of other people in danger. I think that’s what we’re saying.”

Social media users were quick to criticize Whoopi for her outburst, with one user taking to X, formally Twitter: “Talk about out of touch. Multi-millionaire Whoopi Goldberg claims to be part of the working class because she has a job on The View.”

Another chimed in: “Wouldn’t it be great if, for the last 5 minutes of each show, they had a producer fact-check the episode? Whoppi, your net worth is 60 million. You make 4-5 million per year from The View. You’re not working class.”

A third viewer also expressed their frustration, saying, “The lack of self awareness from the elites is too much,” and another added, “Completely separated from reality…”

In 2016, Whoopi’s salary from The View was reported to be between $5 million and $6 million annually.

She has starred in blockbuster movies like Sister Act, which grossed over $230 million; for its sequel, she earned approximately $7 million, making her the highest-paid actress at that time.

Aside from film projects, she has profited from her work in theater and as an author.

She also runs several business ventures, including her Dubgee clothing line.
