First collaborating together on the 1993 duet “House of Love,” Vince Gill and Amy Grant’s musical partnership blossomed into a romantic one.
Although they were each married to different people at the time, “the energy was palpable to all of us,” Grant said. After splitting from their respective partners, the powerhouse duo married in March 2000. Just ahead of their 25th wedding anniversary, the two shared the secret to a successful marriage. And it may surprise you.
Vince Gill and Amy Grant Will Celebrate Years of Marriage New Year
When Entertainment Online’s Rachel Smith asked Vince Gill for the secret to his marriage’s longevity, the “One More Last Chance” hitmaker gave a surprisingly pragmatic answer.
“I travel a lot,” he quipped. “I’m on the road.”
Gill has been traveling with the Eagles for the last eight years.
In all sincerity, Grant says, the two do give each other “a lot of freedom.”
“But what my feeling is, I just love returning to him,” the “Baby Baby” singer added.
Indeed, the couple tells People magazine that they never even considered combining their already well-established careers. “We had enough of our lives under our belts that we knew we didn’t want to all of a sudden be Donnie and Marie or Sonny and Cher or whoever,” said Gill, 67. “There was no point in that.”
Those rules are more relaxed during the Christmas season, however. The duo’s annual holiday residency at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium has become a cherished tradition. Additionally, Gill and Grant just released their first-ever joint Christmas album, When I Think of Christmas.
The project features two new tracks plus five previous recordings from each artist, including two of Grant’s signature Christmas songs, “Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song)” and “Tennessee Christmas.” Vince Gill chimes in on numbers like “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “O Holy Night.”
Gill Loves Watching His Wife “Shine”
Vince Gill and Amy Grant have practically become synonymous with Christmas music. Gaining fame on the Christian music scene in the ’80s, Grant, now 64, said Christmas music seemed like a logical transition.
Gill’s favorite part, he says, is “watching Amy shine and watching people respond to watching her shine.”
“She’s had as much impact with Christmas music as she had the other. And then on top of that she’s had a bunch of pop hits,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “She’s a pretty remarkable girl.”
