Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom form one of the most high-profile couples in the industry and have been together for almost eight years now. The two first met at the 2016 Golden Globes while fighting over an In-N-Out burger, and have been together ever since. The singer even recalled the hilarious interaction in a March 2019 episode of American Idol, saying:

“I met my boyfriend over In-N-Out. We were at the Golden Globes and we weren’t together. So I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend’s hand — he wasn’t even sitting at our table — he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, ‘Hey that’s my burger!'”

However, there was once a period of separation between Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom in 2017. During an episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast on September 4, 2024, the songstress revealed that she and Bloom were mentally in different places when they first started dating together.

“I mean, he was in a way, because he had just done a huge time of celibacy, and he had set intentions. I was fresh out of a relationship, and I was just like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I need to go swim in a different pond,’ but I had yet to do a lot of real work,” Perry explained.

“It saved my life” — Katy Perry explains how a week-long retreat helped in mending relationshiop with Orlando Bloom

During her appearance on Kimmy Kimmel Live! in February 2019Perry described how the Pirates of the Caribbean actor proposed to her on Valentine’s Day in the same year. But their wedding plans were postponed due to the advent of COVID-19. The two soon moved in together and welcomed their first child, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020.

In the recent episode of Call Her Daddy podcast, Katy Perry spoke at length about her ephemeral breakup with Orlando Bloom back in 2017. She also explained how they eventually got back together after a change in Perry’s thought process following a trip.

Perry recalled Orlando taking a weeklong retreat to the Hoffman Institute in California, where therapists usually help people find the ‘reborn’ mode by rewiring their neural pathways through physical activites.

When Orlando returned from the trip, it caused a paradigm shift in his mindset. Perry recounted:

“He wasn’t playing this cat-mouse game anymore. And I was like, ‘This is boring. I’m moving on, I was like, ‘This is boring. I’m moving on.'””

The Roar singer didn’t enjoy the new avatar of Orlando Bloom and decided to move on because of the lack of a “dopamine hit.” However, she took a trip to Hoffman herself after their breakup.

“I got the tools and spoke the same language, and it changed my life. It saved my life. I would be dead without it. I would not be on this planet without that process — and meditation,” she explained.

The trip also helped the Grammy-nominated singer rewire her brain following the underwhelming performance of her 2017 album Witness. The singer stated that Hoffman retreat experience helped them rebuild their bond.

In the podcast, Perry explained how she visited Orlando Bloom when she came to perform at one of his holiday destinations. Thereafter, the two reconciled and haven’t had any public fallout to date.

Katy Perry ended the exchange by detailing the way the two complement each other in real-life scenarios. Despite being the “alpha” in most cases, Perry confessed that she needed help and Orlando Bloom was the perfect anchor for the songstress.
