Patrick Mahomes loses one of his lethal weapons in a major setback for the Chiefs’ offense
Chiefs star undergoes shoulder surgery
Marquise Brown, the stellar wide receiver of the Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are facing a setback as star wide receiver Marquise Brownwill be sidelined for at least four games due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Brown will be placed on the injured reserve, meaning he will miss a significant portion of the upcoming games.
The 27-year-old receiver, who recently joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal in free agency, was unable to play in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, and now his highly-anticipated debut with Kansas City will have to wait even longer.
The Chiefs will be without Brown for key matchups against the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, and New Orleans Saints. Following these games, they have a bye week before facing the San Francisco 49ers in a Super Bowl 58 rematch.
This injury comes as a blow to Brown, who has faced challenges with injuries throughout his career. He has only completed a full regular season once, in 2020 with the Ravens. In his six-year career, he has missed multiple games in different seasons, including five in 2022 with the Arizona Cardinals and three in 2023.
Brown to miss key matchups
Despite his injury setbacks, Brown has shown his talent on the field, with 313 receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns in 72 career NFL games. His best season was in 2021, when he recorded 91 receptions for 1,008 yards.
In response to the setback, Brown expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s frustrating to have to sit out games and not be out there helping my team. But I’m determined to come back stronger and make an impact when I return.”
As Brown focuses on his recovery, the Chiefs will need to rely on their depth at the wide receiver position to fill the void left by his absence. With upcoming matchups against tough opponents, including the highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch, the team will need to adapt and find ways to succeed without one of their key offensive weapons.
