Officials Accused of Chiefs Favoritism in ‘MNF’ Win Over Saints
Kansas City wasn’t called for blatant pass interference late in fourth quarter
Though the game was all but decided, the non-call for defensive pass interference against Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Bryan Cook as he was draped over the back of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave in the waning minutes of KC’s 26-13 win on “Monday Night Football” was controversial to say the least.
The non-call is even more egregious considering the Chiefs got away a similar play the previous week against the Atlanta Falcons when tight end Kyle Pitts was contacted in the end zone before the ball arrived, causing an incompletion and likely costing the Falcons a win.
Kansas City also benefitted from a controversial pass interference call in a Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
There appeared to be defensive pass interference on that play, but fans are becoming more enraged because of the optics of DPI calls seemingly always playing into the Chiefs’ favor and feeding into the narrative that the NFL favors Kansas City and calls games in such a way to support that belief.
So when blatant DPI wasn’t called on Olave’s play, fans took to social media to call out the referees who what they deemed to be clear Chiefs favoritism.
“At some point everyone has to see it….,” @noonebutDuke observed.
“Hmmm. Just like the ATL no call. It’s not enough State Farm and Cereal commercials are glazing the Chiefs, but now it’s the refs too,” @CanonManley stated.
“Chiefs did the same thing against ATL. It’s so ridiculous at this point,” @cheeseinspeeg remarked.
“Are we even surprised anymore all of their wins are fraudulent,” @positionsmafiaa wrote.
“What I’m saying most blatant call I’ve seen in a min,” @BarkleysBurner_ commented.
“Taylor Swift must win. That’s why,” @Unstablesportz exclaimed.
Even broadcaster Joe Buck realized the absurdity of the situation, poking fun at the non-call during the broadcast, stating “Maybe these officials just want to go home.”
The Chiefs have been the beneficiary of controversial officiating in four of their five wins this season.
