Notorious for Feuds With Woods & McIlroy, PGA Tour Critic Strongly Backs TGL in Surprise Rant
The feud between the two leagues has been a long-time topic. With the never-ending issue, critics are seen taking sides with the leagues and sharing their thoughts on improvements for the league. Earlier in 2024, Lucas Glover shared his thoughts on the signature event having limited players. According to him, it should have other major names from the LIV Golf as well.
For the TGL event too, players and critics shared their thoughts. Most prominent was how Rickie Fowler, being a part of the event shared about the event. When asked about the expectations, he said, “I’m looking forward to it. In a way, we don’t fully know what to expect until it really gets going.”
However, now with the event dates getting closer, things are falling in place for the brainchild of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. The LIV golf supporter, Hank Haney was suspended from the PGA Tour radio show over his controversial comments. However, he is seen showcasing the positive side of the TGL on X.
Following the ongoing discussion, he was seen taking the side of the event with his responses. Replying to one user on X, who shared his views on how TGL could be a great boost for golf in places having cold conditions. He wrote, “Sim golf is really taking off and if TGL can be anything that will only help it grow. If next to no one watches TGL it will still help golf. People will talk about how bad the ratings are but as long as TGL can stay afloat it helps the game.”
Not only this, but one user wrote about professional golf dying. Haney replied to it writing, “Professional golf isn’t dying, it’s declining because Tiger isn’t there to carry it, LIV sliced the pie up and the PGA Tour didn’t evolve and address its issues, it is now and things will improve but there will never be another Tiger Woods.”
The former coach of Tiger Woods has been in controversy earlier about his statements and comments on Woods’s performance. However, the supportive side of him is a new thing for the golf world. Not just him, but others from the golf world are praising the event for its uniqueness.
Tiger Woods’s TGL event the new revolution of professional golf
The first-of-its-kind event having top names playing with the twist of technology is something that only Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have dreamed of. Even after a delay of a year, 2025 is the time for its debut. The event will tee off in front of a simulator, but offer a real feel of golf with a different course and setup. Teeing off at the SoFi center in Palm Beach State College.
The 250,000-square-foot venue will offer a similar feel to a real course, but in reality, will be tech-infused. For the long shots, golfers will hit the 3,400 square foot screen, which is 24X greater than the normal golf simulator. This is a great blend of tech and real-world golf. However, it will require different golfing essentials as compared to the real world to cover long distances. Sharing on the same, Jonathan Wall also wrote on X, “With TGL on the horizon, I’m hearing a few pros have been testing different driver builds to maximize distance for screen golf. Most common are longer shafts and drivers designed to knuckle a bit more for extra rollout.”
With 6 teams of three players each competing against each other, the new evolution with the technology is much awaited. Fans can witness the action live on ESPN and ESPN+ in the U.S. With some of the big names featuring the event with a new course and setup. What are your expectations of the league?
