Texas father was brought to tears when his son gave him a heartfelt surprise to thank him for the sacrifices he made while raising him.

Earl Guynes, 65, of Mesquite bought his dream car – a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro – when he was 22 years old.

But had to part with his prized possession in 1983 after learning his wife Mona was pregnant with his second child, Jared. Earl knew he needed more money to support his growing family.

‘I used to tease Jared quite a bit,’ Earl told NBC Boston.

He would poke fun at Jared, 40, saying ‘I used to have a car like that one over there’ and ‘I let it go for diaper money.’

After more than 40 years since Earl said goodbye to his blue beauty, Jared decided it was time for his dad to have the car he deserved.

He started hunting down the vintage car back in 2021. But since Earl sold the Camaro for cash, there was no trace of the deal.

The car’s details were drilled into Jared’s head.

He described them to NBC Boston: ‘It’s a 1967 Marina blue Camaro SS with a 350 small-block V8, an automatic 3-speed transmission. Crager chrome 15-inch mag wheels with white letters on the tire, small 1969 style cowl hood on the front, a small little whale tail on the back and a black interior.’

By 2022, Jared found a Marina blue Camaro 70 miles away and jumped at the opportunity to make his father smile.

Jared – an internet personality, advertising consultant and four-time Guinness World Record holder – spent the next two years secretly fixing up the vehicle.

The re-vamps were finally completed just before Earl’s 65th birthday bash in October.

Jared told NBC Boston: ‘Wanting dad to really understand how much I love him and how important he is to me and how good of a job he did being a dad.

‘I wanted to find the biggest, most symbolic most outrageous, way to help him understand how much. And I’m like, what is the greatest thing possible? And it was the Camaro. It was always the Camaro.’

At the birthday party, Jared had a magician perform the car’s dramatic reveal, which left Earl stunned and teary-eyed.

In a warming Facebook post recapping the moment, Jared wrote: ‘I’ve only seen my dad cry two times in my entire life. Dad only smiles, laughs and selflessly gives his best effort in the service of others.

‘Tonight I saw him cry a third time, as he realized the car in the parking lot that looked just like his old one was actually his after all.

‘And it was one of the best moments of my entire life.’

Earl spent his entire career working with cars and has been an avid automotive enthusiast.

He is excited to keep working on restoring his gracious birthday gift. So far, he noted the car is much safer and a little bit more quiet than his original.

Earl told NBC Boston: ‘It draws attention everywhere you go.’

Based on Jared’s Instagram page, he has inherited his father’s love of cars, with many pictures of vintage cars being worked on or restored filling his page.
