The psychiatrist, who once served as a mediator and marriage counselor during Dre’s contentious divorce from Nicole Young, claims the music icon’s behavior escalated after their professional relationship soured.

The lawsuit traces back to Dre’s highly publicized split from ex-wife Nicole Young, which ended in December 2021 after 24 years of marriage. The divorce proceedings, filed by Young in 2020, were filled with accusations of abuse, which Dre denied. In the final settlement, Nicole Young was awarded $100 million.

According to Dr. Sophy, tensions from the divorce mediation process boiled over into personal harassment. Court documents allege that Dre began sending threatening messages, using intimidating language and homophobic slurs. These messages reportedly left the psychiatrist fearing for his safety.

Christopher Frost, Dr. Sophy’s attorney, described Dre’s actions as retaliatory, claiming the rapper used the mediation process to vent his frustrations against the psychiatrist. Frost further asserted that this behavior was not an isolated incident but part of an ongoing pattern of intimidation.

In addition to seeking $10 million in damages, the lawsuit demands a court-ordered restraining order to prevent further harassment from Dre.

As of now, Dre has not publicly responded to the allegations or the lawsuit. Dre’s attorney, Howard King, told TMZ: “Dr. Sophy filed his suit only after he failed to pressure Mr. Young into dropping efforts to get Dr. Sophy punished for dereliction of duties and incredible incompetence. These claims are set forth in detail in a confidential complaint Mr. Young filed in 2023 with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.”

He added: “That complaint seeks revocation of Dr. Sophy’s license to provide mental health counseling to needy patients. In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy inserted himself into a contentious divorce while he simultaneously ‘treated’ not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children.”
