“I Loved Every Second of It, and I Love Him”: Lainey Wilson Opens up About Working With Post Malone on “Nosedive”
Post Malone’s big splash into Nashville’s country music scene has made yet another ripple, as Lainey Wilson recently divulged how much fun she had working with the artist on “Nosedive.” “Nosedive” was Malone and Wilson’s single on his debut country album F-1 Trillion. Released in the Summer of 2024, the single appeared at No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, for Lainey Wilson, chart placements could mean less, as she made a great new friend in the process.
Recently, Lainey Wilson appeared on the Joel Madden Artist Friendly podcast and discussed an array of different topics. The conversation was rich, professional, and totally casual, but when Wilson started to talk about Malone, she had the fervent passion of a kindergarten at recess. Wilson opened up about Malone when she started talking about “Nosedive” and the other single she helped write, “Have The Heart” featuring Dolly Parton.
Lainey Wilson and Post Malone’s Great Company
Wilson started out her thoughts on Malone by stating, “I loved every second of it, and I love him” and “We’ve become great friends.” Regarding his friendly and generous disposition, Wilson added, “He’s good people… I’m so proud that he’s part of country music.” Malone’s contagious personality isn’t the only facet that made him such a treat to work with, as he is also just a country music encyclopedia according to Wilson.
“You could quiz him and be like, who wrote that song back in 1951, and he would know it,” stated Wilson. Given Malone’s passion and knowledge of the genre, Wilson believes Malone will stay in country music for quite some time. She divulged in the podcast, “He’s super talented… but I think that country, it feels to me, like it’s more natural than ever” and “I’ll bet you he does country for the rest of his life.”
Late Night Writing Session
Wilson shared a personal anecdote about the two and the writing process that “Nosedive” and “Have The Heart” entailed, stating, “We wrote, Lord, I think we wrote 12 hours, that was the first night write I had ever done.” Prior to opening up about their writing process, she attested to Post Malone’s raging songwriting heat and excitement, as she shared, “Even when he was playing me the songs, telling my about the songs, he and Morgan and Luke Combs, they had all written that past week” and “He was like a little kid.”
Lainey Wilson isn’t the only musician to become spellbound by Malone’s charisma and contagious excitement, as Blake Shelton also had very similar comments and thanked Malone for inspiring him to create music again. In all, and most already seemingly view it this way, Post Malone came to Nashville at the best possible time. And his impact has completely changed the trajectory of the genre for years to come.
