Texas High School Ditch Their $230,500,000 ‘GOAT QB’ as Patrick Mahomes Announced for Hall of Fame Alongside RGIII, Jeff Traylor and More

There is no doubt that Patrick Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Among many reasons, two stand out: he led his Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins, and became a prominent figure of his Texas High School. And that’s the reason why his alma mater has decided to honor the quarterback, ditching another star player of the school.

According to recent reports, the “Board of Directors of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame announced the nine individuals selected for induction into this honorable Hall of Fame class.” Among these nine stars, one notable name is Patrick Mahomes. Showtime proved his mettle in the football world in just two years with the school.

Along with him, star players like Pat Thomas, Brad Goebel, John C. Norman, Robert Griffin III, and coaches Jeff Traylor, & Curtis Barbay, among many are inducted for the Class of 2025. They will be “officially honored and inducted on May 10, 2025, in Waco.” Now this sounds exciting and prideful for the selected. But a major name missing in this lot is surely catching the attention of the NFL fans. Kyler Murray!

Remember once, in February this year, Johnny Menzel, another Texas product, said that there is a quarterback in the league who is much better than Patrick Mahomes. Yes! He was talking about Cardinals QB Kyler Murray. Speaking on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, the former QB claimed that Murray is the best quarterback to date at Texas High School.

He said, “If you know anything about Texas High School football, I would say (Kyler Murray’s) resume and what he did makes him hands down the best Texas high school football player to ever play.” Despite this fact, he was recently ditched by the Texas High School. He has not been named the Hall of Fame inductee.

Patrick Mahomes vs Kyler Murray: A quick recap of the school stats!

Johnny Menzel acclaimed Kyler Murray as the best QB Texas has ever produced. Still many wondered about the authenticity of the statement. So, is it true what Menzel said? Well, surprisingly, it is!

Kyler Murray was unstoppable in high school. He led Allen High to three straight state championships, never losing a game as the starting quarterback – 42-0. Wow! That’s a perfect record. But this record isn’t the conclusion. Besides these, Murray threw for over 8,000 yards, scored 142 touchdowns, and even won a Heisman in college. And hence, when he entered the NFL, he was the top pick in 2019.

But here’s where things take a turn. While Murray’s high school and college career was shining, his NFL journey hasn’t been as dominant. He arguably helps lead the Cardinals to a top-10 rushing offense every year. But, he has not won any Super Bowl since years have been in the eyes now.

Now looking at Patrick Mahomes. His high school stats were impressive but not as flawless as Murray’s. Mahomes recorded “4,619 passing yards, 50 passing touchdowns, 948 rushing yards, and 15 rushing touchdowns” in his senior year. Yet in the NFL, Mahomes skyrocketed. Let’s face the reality that he has become one of the greatest quarterbacks we’ve ever seen.

And probably that’s the reason why Texas thought to honor Patrick Mahomes. They left out their star alumni, the $230,500,000 “GOAT QB” Kyler Murray.
